Deer Creek is proud to be part of this year's celebration
of world dance at the Chabot College
Performing Arts Center located on the campus at
25555 Hesperian Blvd, Hayward, Bldg 1300. The show is a fundraiser for
the college's Children's Center. Contact the performing arts center for
details on the show.
Friday, May 1, 5:30a - Palo Alto Baylands, May Day morning,
Join us at the
Baylands Nature Preserve
and come help us dance up the Sun in Palo Alto on MayDay
morning (we do it every year, and it always works - good thing, too!) and
celebrate. It's not so much that we believe the sun won't come up on Mayday without
some dancing, it's just that if we didn't dance, and the sun didn't come up, we'd
feel really bad.
If you haven't been out to see the sunrise celebration, give it a try. It's very beautiful, and while the
sleepiness lasts only as long as it takes you to get there, the happy glow lasts all day!
Not in Palo Alto? - that's ok - there's May Day dancing
all over the West Coast
(CANCELLED DUE TO
RAIN)
Saturday, May 2, 1:00p - Revels May Day, Oakland Zoo
Celebrate May Day,
Revels style at the
Oakland Zoo, 9777 Golf Links Rd., Oakland off Highway 580. Of course,
we'll be dancing but there's lots more to see and do as well. Check out events on the Revels
website.
Sunday, May 3, 2:00p - Revels May Day, Pelican Inn, Muir Beach
Join us at a favorite Deer Creek haunt, the
Pelican Inn (a bit of ole Blighty in the Bay Area) for good food,
good drink, good dance, and good Revels fun Good gracious!
The inn is located at 10 Pacific Way in Muir Beach. Check their website
under "British & Holiday Events"
Saturday, May 9 - Palo Alto Day-of-Dance and BBQ - noon (tentative)
We're looking to put this together but we
know the BBQ will be at 4p. Details still to come (check back often, right?)
Sunday, May 10, 1:00p and 2:45p - Ardenwood Historic Farm, Fremont
(tentative)
The
Ardenwood
Historic Farm is at
34600 Ardenwood Bl in Fremont. We'll be
joining hosts
Goat Hill Morris
for this special Mother's Day celebration. Bring out your mom - show her you love her.
Give the gift of morris dancing. And afterwards you'll likely finding us
toasting Mom at the Englander pub.
Sunday, May 31, 12:30p - Whitsunday Grace Cathedral, San Francisco
As part of the
Whitsunday celebration, we'll be dancing in the
Grace Cathedral courtyard
after the late morning service. Since it's in San Francisco, check out
their website for
directions,
parking, and transit information.
Sunday, May 31, 12:00p to 4:00p - Black-and-White Tour
It's out of our colors and into our black n' whites for the tour of the same name. We join morris dancers
from teams all around the Bay Area as we do an entire day to gather and dance out in a "mix and match" fashion
from these other teams. In lieu of kit (costume), we dress in black and white only, but still get pretty creative
with ribbons, hats, vests, (not to mention them with skirts, striped tights and corsets). The colors have been
removed to protect the innocent and provide plausible deniability for everyone else.
The tour starts at the
Conservatory of
Flowers in
Golden
Gate Park and there will be a pub stop afterwards at
Yancy's, near
9th and Irving. Deer Creek members will show up
around 1:30p after the Grace Cathedral performance.
Saturday, June 6, 11:00a(?) - Seabright Santa Cruz Day-of-Dance
Seabright Morris and Sword hosts their annual late spring
dance tour throughout Santa Cruz. It usually starts before lunch at the
lighthouse, but we're still waiting on details. When we
do know, we'll tell you here.
Sunday, June 14 - Marin Tour
We'll be joined by
Apple Tree Morris as we forage
off to dance in Mill Valley (following the start of the 2nd oldest marathon in
the US, the Dipsea Race, the
Sausalito ferry landing, and points in San Rafael
ending the annual Italian
Street Painting Festival.
Check back for detailed times and locations.
Sunday, June 21, 6:00p to 9:00p - Revels Summer Solstice
The
Revels present "Solstice
in the Shire: a country English Celebration of Summer"
at the
Oakland Zoo - Join us at the
Snow Building. We'll be dancing, but there will be lots more
Revels fun, too! Feast on a fantastic picnic supper, enjoy the
entertainment and bid in the silent auction for cool stuff.
Hey, it's Father's Day, too. Give Dad the gift of morris dance - well,
it's gotta be better than another tie, yes? Check the Revels website for
pricing.
Saturday, July 18, 11:30a to 7:00p - Apple Tree Morris Marin Tour
We join our northern neighbors Apple Tree Morris for a tour of
some of our favorite
North Bay spots throughout the afternoon, finishing up at the Windsor Shakespear Festival.
Friday-Sunday, August 14-16, Upsc'ale, the 2009
California Morris Ale
This year's California Ale will be is
hosted by Seabright Morris, portends to be a great gathering of morris teams all
up and down the west coast, and some guests from England as well.. We'll
be based on the UC Santa Cruz campus for festivities overlooking the beaches and performance throughout
the area.
